    Coming full circle: Returned to my Stereo Roots of 1976

    I got into great stereo sound in 1975-76 after seeing/hearing a new friend's stereo. I chose to built a PAT-5 from a kit and since I couldn't afford a Dynaco amp chose two SWTPC Tiger 60 watt mono amps, also as kits. I have bought one Dynaco A-25 speaker so far which were my first speakers. Google The Robb Collections for my blogs on classic stereos, cameras and much more.

    Dynaco Best Preamp, First of the Minimalist Preamps, Before Nelson Pass & Threshold!

    This is the first "minimalist" stereo preamps. It isn't ornate in design or operation. It has a simple circuit topology that takes advantage of hand-matched transistors and passive components from top-quality sources. There is minimal negative feedback (mostlly in the phonograph equalizer section) so there is no smearing of details. It has a bright open feel to the sound that pairs very well with top vacuum tube power amplifiers. Bought mine in 1972 while waiting to be drafted into the Vietnam War. I already had a Dynaco Stereo 70. The PAT-5 made my little 35 watt per channel power amp shine like it was 100 watts.

    Dynaco pre-amp

    This pre-amp is extremely versatile. Plenty of inputs and 2 line level outputs. Quality of the Dynaco product line easily as good or better than today's mid pricepoint equipment.
