Extremely well packaged and totally as described, works perfectly and is exactly what I was after. Seller also accepted less than asking price. Came on 2nd day after ordering, so to me that's a quick postage too. Will definitely be returning to get a macro lense. Thank you!

One of the best value portrait prime lenses.

Just the most beautiful portrait prime lens. Everyone raves about the redline 1.2ƒ, but this is WAY better value for money. Also, shooting at 1.2ƒ tends to mean the end of your subjects nose is in focus, and the rest of the face is blurry! 1.4ƒ is ample for portraits. It takes a bit of getting used to such a shallow depth of field - with brilliant and satisfying results when you do. Great for outdoors as a short telephoto, captures interesting light so sensitively. Again, it takes a while to get used to the focal length, but then the pictures it takes makes you hunger for more work with it, so you start looking for shots for the lens! It's fairly weighty with the big glass, giving it a substantial feel. Shooting with it is definitely an 'event', rather than quick and snappy.

  • Most critical review

    Not the sharpest lens.

If you want a 85mm prime for low light photography with out the mortgaging this is the best option for canon. However you won't ever get really sharp images into the corners. Its sweet spot is f5.6 at its sharpest but don't let that put you off. You can get good images but not as good as the 50mm prime that canon do. I rarely use the 85mm but for the price compared to others it's worth considering. Alternatively for sharper images I'd advise the sigma 105mm.

  • Classic Portrait Lens for a Reason

Ideal focal length for portraits on a full frame camera such as the Canon 5D series or 6D, although on a crop sensor body, the effective focal length becomes 136mm - still usable, but you'll need some separation from your subject. The lens is compact and quite lightweight, with a reasonable amount of plastic around the body and lens front. It's durable enough though. The ultrasonic motor makes for pretty quiet autofocus and the focus itself, is sharp. If you need or want manual focus, this can be achieved by flicking the AF / MF selector, or just twisting the focus ring - it will override the autofocus, but of course, if your focusing is coupled to the shutter release, the auto will reinstate when you press the button. I use this on a Sony A7 Mk2 with a Fotodiox Pro adapter. Autofocus is ...

  • Great little lens, if a little heavy!

This is only my second EF lens, I have an AP-C crop canon camera. It's great value lens 85mm at f/1.8 useful wide lens giving me a crop focal length of 136mm. The only problem is that it is much heavier than my EF-S STM lenses like the 10-18mm EF-S. I have to get used to EF lenses being more solid, more metal and this quite heavy.

  • Great lens

This is a great lens for studio and portraits. Either on a full frame or cropped sensor camera. I generally use Canon's 70mm/200mm f2.8 for a lot of shots but this fixed focal length is less bulky and more suitable for tripod work.
