Amit Bhaduri es mundialmente conocido por sus aportes teoricos en los campos de la macroeconomia, el crecimiento y la distribucion del ingreso. En este libro, pensado para un publico general, Bhaduri muestra que la obsesion por las reformas pro mercado orientadas a la eficiencia encarnan una vision del mundo que ha fracasado palmariamente. Las reformas neoliberales como las privatizaciones, las politicas de ajuste fiscal y la ortodoxia en materia monetaria fueron presentadas como instrumentos optimos para el progreso social, pero constituyeron objetivos en si mismos sostenidamente priorizados frente a las demandas sociales. El autor parte de una implacable refutacion moral a la vision neoliberal, pero tambien despliega sus ideas desde el analisis economico. Los argumentos que desarrolla en la critica de la ideologia dominante son incorporados como bases para la propuesta de un modelo alternativo de desarrollo con dignidad. Amit Bhaduri es economista indio y obtuvo su doctorado en la Universidad de Cambridge en los anos sesenta. Fue profesor en las universidades de Bolonia, Pavia, Stanford, Bremen, Viena y Linz, el Colegio de Mexico, la Universidad Noruega de Ciencia y Tecnologia y, asimismo, en varias universidades indias.
