As with all Tourniquet releases, there's hits and misses, due to more to creativity than talent. I think it's almost a 50/50 split here, perhaps not quite as good as Psycho Surgery before it was. After these two cds, the band made some membership changes and got even more creative. Sometimes these artsy attempts work and sometimes they most certainly do not. This is certainly thinking man's metal and even if you like this cd, you will probably not like every song on it no matter your taste. I'm writing this review from memory just because this cd warrants feedback and at least some recommendation. Tourniquet is about unpredictable speed changes and graphic lyrics. While certainly incorporating thrash admirably, they often delve into other styles of metal. This is heavy stuff, both musically and lyrically smart. This cd might be more thematic than others, as it looks into the effects of sin. Sin affects the human psyche in many profound ways. Basically, I like every second song on this cd. Phantom Limb is probably their swan-song. But, there are certainly a few that I could have done without. Ted Kirkpatrick has a style like no other behind the kit. If you are a drummer, this is probably a must-have. He is technically sound and has a unique approach, especially given the genre. He is also the one responsible for the medical parallels to spirituality that some will find curious.Read full review
Tourniquet's third studio record is as excellent as the previous two. Her you will find killer songs like the title track, Incommensurate, Exoskeletons, The Skeezix Dilemma among others. This record would be the last one having Guy Ritter as the frontman. highly recommended for any metal fan.
