Sunbeam Alpine James Bond
Iconic car from the first and one of the best Bond Movies. This version captures the essence of the car and the time, Bond would have liked it himself although i guess he'd have preferred driving on white, sandy roads with the Caribbean Sea in the background as he was in the movie! The James Bond collection has a super version to, so sorry if you;re a Bond collector you'll really need both! Good EBaying RobIconic car from the first and one of the best Bond Movies. Sunbeam Alpine: one of the prettiest cars of the 60s
I wish Corgi had made one of these when they were first seen on our roads. In a rare video, Ria Bartok dances next to one on the French Rivera as she sings about not being able to forget François but we had to wait until Bond, as in Bond, my names James Bond. gets one and just about manages to outrun a hearse in the Dr. No film. Someone at Corgi had the bright idea of issuing a series of Bond cars in 2002 and, although it was made in China, this model feels good to hold, is solid and in the nice 1:43 scale that seemed so right. It is a very accurate reproduction of the sports saloon in a shade of blue you'd expect to see on kitchen doors but was sexy in the Sixties. I bought this just because I love the classic design that just looked so attractive, and still does if you're lucky enough ... I am really not at all concerned with the Bond history so I'm quite relieved that it has just the silly 007 registration plates and no other glorification. I shall stick some suitable number plate over the top of those and all will be well with the world. Bearing in mind how clever the Eastern producers are at creating tiny elements and features on models this size I am disappointed that my model has an unpainted grill. It's not like they ran out of silver paint as there is some on the bumpers and headlamps but the grill has remained a rather unrealistic blue. Now it may be that mine is a flawed model that missed the quality inspection and that really is the only criticism I have. A minor moan would be that it has no suspension and the packaging it comes in is pretty dreadful, with warnings for small children reminding us of the panic that was in the air at the turn of the century and everyone tried to protect themselves from being sued. Quite frankly, I'd challenge any kid to get the car free from the tangle of plastic covered wire that some Chinese young lad or lady has applied with more than a little determination. I can imagine him or her smiling and thinking 'Take that Western toy collector! What you pay for this would feed me and my one child for two years!' Now there's a Bond plot for someone to work on...
