Synopsis
In 1967, after a session with a psychiatrist she'd never seen before, eighteen-year-old Susanna Kaysen was put in a taxi and sent to McLean Hospital. She spent most of the next two years in the ward for teenage girls in a psychiatric hospital as renowned for its famous clientele--Sylvia Plath, Robert Lowell, James Taylor, and Ray Charles--as for its progressive methods of treating those who could afford its sanctuary. Kaysen's memoir encompasses horror and razor-edged perception while providing vivid portraits of her fellow patients and their keepers. It is a brilliant evocation of a "parallel universe" set within the kaleidoscopically shifting landscape of the late sixties. Girl, Interrupted is a clear-sighted, unflinching document that gives lasting and specific dimension to our definitions of sane and insane, mental illness and recovery., 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION * NATIONAL BESTSELLER * In 1967, after a session with a psychiatrist she'd never seen before, eighteen-year-old Susanna Kaysen was put in a taxi and sent to McLean Hospital. No complaints here! Arrived later than advertised, but that was fine. Good communication by seller. 150-year old book actually arrived in better condition than I expected even though it was delivered inside a thin plastic envelope. For the sale price, I am a very happy customer. Thank you!

    Very Intriguing Content

This book has great imagery and is descriptive when it comes to the author's time in the hospital. It deals with real people and has the people reacting realistically instead of the way certain authors do. Well worth reading.

  • Very Impressive

I thought this book was very well written. The author writes aboout her experience in a mental ward. The interesting factor of this book is details are so immense that you literally feel as though you are there seeing everything first hand. It also makes a statement of there being a very fine line of stable versus unstable. It helps the reader to understand the minds of these girls, and how anyone can be there in their shoes. These girls feel so real, almost as if we can all recall having someone like them in our lives at one point. I would recommend reading this book.

  • Kept my attention

Very descriptive and well written. I couldn't put down the book.
