Todd Rundgren refuses to be nailed down into some neat package, and it's been that way since he refused to follow up the 1972 chartbuster Something/Anything? with the next regurgitation of pop schlock, but instead gave us head trips and synth mastery that has given him a so-called cult following all these years since. Each successive album finds Todd offering up something new, and 2004's Liars album was no different. This particular show was recorded June 9, 2004 (not 2005 like eBay's full description says) in Albany, New York. Todd's visual stage presentations are often as visually stimulating as his music albums are aurally thrilling. From the Egyptian-themed setting of Utopia's tour for their progressive rock album RA in 1977, fully equipped with pyramid, sphinx and a huge fountain surrounding the drummer, to the "Todd-pod" of 1993's No World Order tour, concertgoers have always delighted in seeing Todd Rundgren and company on tour. 2004's model sported the band - Todd and the Liars (Kasim Sulton on bass/vox, Prairie Prince on drums, Jesse Gress on guitar/vox, and John Ferenzik on keyboards) - in religious garb for the first set, and in colorful pimp suits for the second set. The stage is sectioned off in metal compartments, each musician getting his own with Todd up front and center, and the on-stage lighting is completely LED, which is evident throughout the DVD. There is still a spotlight on Todd. Musically, the show recorded for this DVD brings an even mix of songs from Liars and Todd's past catalog. The Liars album focused on elements of truth, and those that twist it, from political and religious leaders who abuse their power (Liar - the title track, Fascist Christ, Mammon and God Said), the emptiness of today's soul music (Soul Brother), to the near-perfect specimen of a soulmate (Flaw), to the personal quest of finding truth in everyday life (Truth, Sweet). On this DVD, the band does an excellent job of bringing these songs to the stage, sounding fresh and well-rehearsed. Soulful ballads like Past and Flaw contrast the harder rock stuff, and the jumpy Soul Brother kicks off the second set with a bang. Not only do they do the Liars material justice, they also render killer versions of classics like Buffalo Grass, I Hate My Frickin' ISP, a quirky version of Hello It's Me, and Just One Victory. If that's not enough for you, the heavy-rockin' cover of the Beatles' While My Guitar Gently Weeps (also recorded by Rundgren for a Harrison tribute CD) will have you beggin' for more. I rated this DVD as excellent because the sound is very good, the performance really rocked, and because this particular tour needed to have a DVD release that is this good. Todd Rundgren proves he still has the guitar chops he had in earlier years, and the rest of the band deserves their share of the credit, too. The LED lighting sometimes muddies the screen, but on the whole this is an excellent video recording of this special event. The DVD extras: a tour scrapbook, and a video diary of Todd & family and the band in Japan.Read full review
This show remined me of a Tubes Concert I went ot years ago, where the band had multiple costume/outfit changes while continuing to play. The A/V is outstanding, and Todd is as strong as ever, both vocally and as a consumate master of the AX. Botox would be a blessing for video format, as he cuold use a little help on the brow to stem the ravages of time. Buy it, you'll be happy you did!!
If you're a Todd fan I think you'll enjoy it. I was glad to hear Hello it's me, again. Good concert!!! Thanks Paula

Excellent video. His best work in years. I've been a fan for years so I try to get everything I can that Todd does. This video is excellent. Todd always puts so much into his shows. I recomend it for the serious fans and the new ones as well.
Todd Rundgren is a Master and this band is full of great musicians . A great DVD concert. If you like music that is not the main stream then you gotta see and hear this show.Vote Todd Rundgren into the Rock&Roll Hall of Fame.
Not bad but better live. Perhaps I got a bad copy as the audio at times was not in synch with the video. Still worth having if you're a collector.
Given it's rarity, the cost could be justified.
