Great book for children or adults.
This book is one of a follow-on series from The Circle of Magic, called The Circle Opens. The first 4 books are about 4 friends who are mages, and how they learn to use their magic. In the second series, all 4 are away from their home at Winding Circle, travelling with their teachers. They each find other children with magic powers, who they have to teach how to control and use their magic. Cold Fire is about Daja, who is a fire mage and smith. Not only does she have to help twin girls with their magic, but there is also the problem of who is setting fires that destroy wooden buildings in the frozen north.
