This is Van Morrison's earliest material(1964-66) Of course it contains the big hit "Gloria", but there is a lot of other strong material here as well. Them's sound on this first album is very blues-influenced and there is evidence of that with some fine harp work by Morrison on some of the tracks, particularly on "Mystic Eyes", where the band goes into a Yardbirds-like rave-up. There is an awesome cover of "Stormy Monday" that features some jazzy vibe playing. There is the heart-breaking "Here Comes the Night" (another hit), a rockin' cover of Big Joe Williams' "Baby Please Dont Go", and even an interesting interpretation of Simon and Garfunkel's "Richard Cory". Morrison's band displays some tight playing. Unfortunately, there is no mention in the liner notes about who they were, because apparently this is something that was never documented. To this day it remains a mystery. If you like vintage rock & roll from the early 60's era, this disc is definitely work seeking out and adding to your collection. It's just a shame that it is out of print and hard to find. Hopefully it will be re-issued some day. Are you listening, Rhino Records?Read full review
I am a BIG Van Morrison fan and this cd was not available where I usually buy cds. And if it was, the price would have been higher. I really wanted this cd. It looked a little rough when I got it but it plays perfectly, no scratches or anything so I am very happy with it. This cd has one of my favorite Blues songs on it. Its just great!!!
Product was inexpensive, shipped fast. Just what I needed for my collection.

This Cd is really one of the best of Them, I mean I am a Van MOrrison fan from way back and this is where it all strted. This cd brings back so many memories of this era. Love it but then it is the Van Morrison at his best, well he is great now but he was good back then also.
