I watched this 'version' when it was first shown on UK tv. Initially, I was surprised at the casting of the lead characters, Irene & Soames. However the acting from Damien Lewis & Gina McKee is so VERY good, it just takes over! I now have both the 'old' version (with Nyree Dawn Porter, & Eric Porter) & this new version (with Damien Lewis & Gina McKee), and this 2nd version is by far the better, despite the casting of Emma Griffiths Malin as Fleur Forsyte being very mis-cast. In my opinion, Susan Hampshire (Fleur in the earlier 1967-69 series) was far better cast - she really WAS Fleur Forsyte. Well we all have our favourites. Perhaps its best to have both versions & watch them alternately.

Looking forward to watching this remake of a great drama series. I remember the first version from many years ago.

This is a 2002 ITV remake of the classic drama serial originally in black and white on the BBC in 1967. The remake is of course in colour and looks stunning on a modern TV. The acting, led by Gina McKee and Damian Lewis, is superb. It is a story of love and jealousy between different branches of a very wealthy family spanning several generations around 1900. It is not a happy story, but it is gripping.
