O oleo de pinhao-manso tem sido utilizado na India ha varias decadas como biodiesel para as necessidades de combustivel diesel de comunidades rurais e florestais remotas; o oleo de pinhao-manso pode ser utilizado directamente apos extraccao (isto e, sem refinacao) em geradores e motores diesel. Tem o potencial de proporcionar beneficios economicos a nivel local, uma vez que sob gestao adequada tem o potencial de crescer em terras marginais nao agricolas secas, permitindo assim aos aldeoes e agricultores alavancar terras nao agricolas para a geracao de rendimentos.
