Synopsis
Feminist Comedy: Women Playwrights of London identifies the eighteenth-century comedic stage as a key site of feminist critique, practice, and experimentation. While the history of feminism and comedy is undeniably vexed, by focusing on five women playwrights of the latter half of the eighteenth century--Catherine Clive, Frances Brooke, Frances Burney, Hannah Cowley, and Elizabeth Inchbald--this book demonstrates that stage comedy was crucial to these women's professional success in a male-dominated industry and reveals a unifying thread of feminist critique that connects their works. Though male detractors denied women's comic ability throughout the era, eighteenth-century women playwrights were on the cutting edge of comedy and their work had important feminist influence that can be traced to today's stages and screens., Feminist Comedy argues that the development of modern feminist thought is closely linked to theatrical comedy. Through analysis of plays by Catherine Clive, Frances Brooke, Frances Burney, Hannah Cowley, and Elizabeth Inchbald, the book demonstrates that these authors turned to comedy as a site of feminist critique, practice, and experimentation. .

- v***4 (131)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchasePurchased 5 car Madison rail car set at auction. Received package well wrapped and in original box. Cars themselves are in excellent condition and mostly as described, although I believe they have seen some track time. That being said, seller offers returns so I'm confident seller was told these cars were new by whomever he got them from. The purchase price was excellent so when averaged with a higher than normal shipping fee it turned out to be an overall good deal.(D) #56W - Williams 43471 O Gauge Custom Pullman 60 Ft.
