Synopsis
Nineteenth-century America witnesses an unprecedented rise in reading activity as a result of increasing literacy, advances in printing and book production, and improvements in transporting printed material. As the act of reading took on new cultural and intellectual significance, American writers had to adjust to changes in their relationship with a growing audience. Calling for a new emphasis on historical analysis, Readers in History reconsiders reader-response and reception approaches to the shifting contexts of reading in nineteenth-century America. James L. Machor and his contirbutors dispute the "essentializing tendency" of much reader-response criticism to date, arguing that reading and the textual construction of audience can best be understood in light of historically specific interpretive practices, ideological frames, and social conditions. Employing a variety of perspectives and methods--including feminism, deconstruction, and cultural criticsim--the essays in this volume demonstrate the importance of historical inquiry for exploring the dynamics of audience engagement., ''Presents a number of important Americanist scholars doing substantial and thought-provoking work. - v***4 (116)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchasePurchased 5 car Madison rail car set at auction. Received package well wrapped and in original box. Cars themselves are in excellent condition and mostly as described, although I believe they have seen some track time. That being said, seller offers returns so I'm confident seller was told these cars were new by whomever he got them from. The purchase price was excellent so when averaged with a higher than normal shipping fee it turned out to be an overall good deal.
- r***9 (845)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseAwesome price on this vintage Italeri kit. Seller shipped it quickly at an average cost. The kit arrived safely, very carefully packaged in brand new materials. It was delivered just as it appeared in listing and photos. It was listed as used but really new in an open box complete with the decals and instructions. The kit also included extras, an Edward Models PE detail set and Check Master's engine kit. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase and I highly recommend the seller. Thanks!#83 - ITALERI ACH CHINOOK GUNSHIP 1:72 HELICOPTER MODEL KIT #054 - NIOB (#388261291199)
