Synopsis
Brick chimneys, chimney-pots and roof and ridge tiles have been a feature of the roofs of a wide range of buildings since the late Middle Ages. In the first instance this ceramic roofware was functional - to make the roof weatherproof and to provide an outlet for smoke - but it could also be very decorative. The practical and ornamental aspects of ceramic roofware can still be seen throughout Britain. This book charts the history of ceramic roofware from the Middle Ages to the present day, highlighting both practical and decorative applications, and giving information about manufacturers and on the styles and techniques of production and decoration. About the author Hans van Lemmen taught for many years at Leeds Metropolitan University. He is an established author on the history of tiles and has lectured on the subject in Britain and elsewhere. He is a founder member and presently publications editor of the British Tiles and Architectural Ceramics Society. Other titles for Shire by this author are: Architectural Ceramics Tiled Furniture Church Tiles of the Nineteenth Century, Delftware Tiles (currently out of print), Medieval Tiles Twentieth Century Tiles Victorian Tiles, Charts the history of ceramic roofware starting from the Middle Ages, highlighting both practical and decorative applications, and giving information about manufacturers and on the styles and techniques of production and decoration., Brick chimneys, chimney-pots and roof and ridge tiles have been a feature of the roofs of a wide range of buildings since the late Middle Ages. In the first instance this ceramic roofware was functional - to make the roof weatherproof and to provide an outlet for smoke - but it could also be very decorative. The practical and ornamental aspects of ceramic roofware can still be seen throughout Britain, particularly on buildings of the Victorian and Edwardian periods. Not only do these often have ornate chimneys and roof tiles but they may also feature ornamental sculptures or highly decorative gable ends. This book charts the history of ceramic roofware from the Middle Ages to the present day, highlighting both practical and decorative applications, and giving information about manufacturers and on the styles and techniques of production and decoration.

Excellent seller. Package was delayed ( by bad weather) and then misplaced at PO( placed in wrong box #) but I contacted the seller and they responded quickly and I got my item today. This seller went the extra mile and I would highly recommend them and will shop here again. I also want to say the price for this complete hard to find item was way below most of the other listings. Condition was good as stated, and although I've only watched the first disc it's quality is good. Thank you!!

The cd was well packed and arrived safely. Unfortunately, the disc I received wasn't the original cd. It had been replaced by a CD-R. I immediately alerted World of Books USA regarding the problem and an officer of the company responded within 24 hours. They have provided a full refund of the purchase. Great customer service and communication. The case was resolved to my satisfaction. Will continue to do business with World of Books USA. Thanks.

I received my items in great condition. The books were packed really well and survived the shipping process well. The books appeared described by the seller. Excellent service by the seller, who responded quickly to an inquiry that was more of an issue with the current state of USPS. Excellent transaction with the seller overall!
