Bromley's Family Law has long enjoyed a distinguished reputation both as an academic textbook and as a reference for practitioners. Its clear and precise analysis, readable style and comprehensive approach are qualities which, through successive editions, readers have come to rely upon.This latest edition reflects the general trends in the development of family law, in particular the increasing emphasis upon the parent-child relationship and the diminishing significance of marriage. Therefore substantial changes have been made both to the overall structure and to the content. For example, the chapters on divorce and family protection have been entirely rewritten in the light of the Family Law Act 1996.The increasing 'internationalisation' of family law (such as the growing number of international conventions and the increasing readiness of the domestic courts to consider them) has been acknowledged by appropriate references and discussion throughout the book. The opportunity has also been taken to rewrite substantially the chapters on Marriage and on Financial Support.This new edition also takes into account the 'explosion' of case law that has followed in the wake of the Children Act 1989. Due to this flood of developments, a number of chapters have been largely rewritten.
