About this product

Product Information

The Brandywine River winds from Southeastern Pennsylvania into Delaware along a rolling, agricultural plane. Henry Seidel Canby was born along its banks into a family that has lived in the region for generations. His personal affection for the river is woven into this charming history of events that make the Brandywine one of America's most important small rivers. He explains how the Swedes built the first log cabins in America at the mouth of the Brandywine, why William Penn's Quakers later came here, that prairie schooners were built to haul grain to local flour mills, and how the duPont family started a chemical empire in these narrow gorges. The Battle of the Brandywine was a major confrontation in America's war for independence.

Item was as described and arrived well packaged. Price was reasonable. Dispatch of item was a little on the slower side, but it arrived safely and in good conditoon, so can overlook it to be fair. Seller replies quickly to messages and answers any questions well. Once it was dispatched it arrived quickly. Over all, happy with purchase and would buy from again.

This book is new and is as described in the listing. A slow dispatch was not due to the seller as a third party was responsible for packaging and sending it. The item was eventually delivered by Royal Mail well within the period dates shown. Having purchased from this seller previously a feature of both purchases was the slow dispatch for which the seller is not responsible.

Cover shown on website didn’t match that of book sent. (I’d anticipated the lovely cover art as illustrated.) The book sent has disappointing cover artwork of later or earlier edition. My fault rather than a complaint. Should have contacted seller before ordering, as I did with previous Paul Gallico book I'd ordered from same seller, who were very helpful. (On that occasion I did get the book/cover I wanted.) Moral of the story: check with seller if this sort of thing is important to you.
