Reviews
"This current collection of essays is divided almost equally between theory and performance, but as often Shimon Levy treats the two as a single field as he explores the possibilities of chaos theory as a model for the theatrical experience, where 'even the tiniest detail may influence the presentation,' and moves on to explore the implications of Logical Positivism and Existentialism, all under the umbrella of the Cartesian Cogito. The essay on 'The Poetics of Offstage' is exemplary and should be required reading for theater directors." --S. E. Gontarski, Florida State University; Editor, Journal of Beckett Studies, "As before, the book's principal value lies in Levy's penetrating observations about the ontology of the plays in performance, the reflexive, prism-like conundrums in them that fascinate and frustrate intelligent and attentive spectators and theater practitioners alike… Among the main virtues of this revised and enlarged edition is the addition of production anecdotes and performer-interviews that set Levy's critical ideas in newly illuminating practical context." - Journal of Beckett Studies, "As before, the book's principal value lies in Levy's penetrating observations about the ontology of the plays in performance, the reflexive, prism-like conundrums in them that fascinate and frustrate intelligent and attentive spectators and theater practitioners alike... Synopsis
An exploration of Samuel Beckett's drama, using the criteria that ensue from the works themselves, with particular attention given to the relationship between the medium and the message. This fully revised second edition includes chapters on the radioplays and film and television scripts., This book covers Beckett's complete dramatic works, which are examined through various expressive means: space, light, stage properties and costumes; acting, silences, vocal non-verbal expressions such as cries and whispers; and the notion of "being seen." A recurrent theme is how Beckett's self-referential and meta-theatrical plays refer back to the playwright's artistic self-consciousness and extend an invitation for an authentic dialogue with real people in the audience. This fully revised second edition includes five new chapters.

Item as described. Poly mailer, no padding. Description clearly states delivery window of several weeks. Yet I chose this seller because item is new. Purchased/paid April 16, shipped April 28, arrived Maryland to SC May 5.This after contacting seller on day 10 to ask why it had not shipped yet. Slow return communication requesting invoice number/transaction date. Just be aware. IMHO eBay has sellers with faster, more efficient delivery service.
