Shinkai Returns to His Roots
In 2003 I watched a film by Makoto Shinkai named, in English, The Place Promised in Our Early Days. It immetiately became my favorite film. I later hunted down a copy of Voices of a Distant Star. Both films, and the later 5 Centimeters per Second placed this Director among the top Japanese Animation Directors. Then the roof caved in. I don't know if Shinkai-san actually believed he was really the next Hayao Miyazaki or not, but his efforts after were very disappointing. UNTIL Your Name came out. This film is a magnificent return to the type of stories that made Shinkai-san a household name. While this film does exhibit some "moe" tendencies which I find disapointing, his story is excellent. The music is appropriate for the story and the story itself is quite entertaining. The artwork, as always, is excellent. I would give this film a 9 out of a possible 10.

Amazing!
It truly is an amazing movie! Not just the story but the actual animation is just beautiful! I can't really get into a romance story without there being something else (Horror, sci fi or fantasy, etc) and this movie got the combo perfectly! If you are a fan of sciience fiction or fantasy with a dash of romance, this is a movie you gotta see!
