About this product

Product Information

As a child, Baby Jane Hudson was the toast of vaudeville. As an adult, however, Baby Jane was overshadowed by her more talented sister, Blanche, who became a top movie star. Then, one night in the early '30s, came the accident, which crippled Blanche for life and which was blamed on a drunken, jealous Jane. Flash-forward to 1962: Jane (Bette Davis), decked out in garish chalk-white makeup, still lives with the invalid Blanche (Joan Crawford) in their decaying L.A. mansion. When Jane isn't tormenting the helpless Blanche by serving her dead rats for breakfast, she is plotting and planning her showbiz comeback. Convinced that her days are numbered if she remains in the house with her addlepated sister, Blanche desperately tries to get away, but all avenues of escape are cut off by the deranged Jane.

Convinced that her days are numbered if she remains in the house with her addlepated sister, Blanche desperately tries to get away, but all avenues of escape are cut off by the deranged Jane. WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? sparked a trend toward casting venerable Hollywood female stars in such grotesque Grand Guignol melodramas as LADY IN A CAGE (1964) and HUSH...HUST, SWEET CHARLOTTE(1965). In addition to revitalizing the careers of Davis and Crawford, whose real-life mutual animosity came through loud and clear, the film made a star of sorts of 24-year-old character actor Victor Buono, cast as a porcine mama's-boy musical composer. Lukas Heller's screenplay was based on the novel by Henry Farrell.

    Creepy, Brilliant

Bette Davis at her very best. She wasn't one of Hollywood's prettiest actors, but she was brilliant at what she did. Joan Crawford co starred with Bette and together they made the film very atmospheric and the twist at the end, if I hadn't already seen the film, was outstanding. As you will have guessed, I am a big fan of the old type films, along with Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte, it's Bette Davis at her best.

  • CLASSIC MUST-HAVE MOVIE

From start to finish , just pure classic film-making .eery, strangely funny ...great story and superb acting . I recently watched The Feud , the tv story of the feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford and so that made it all the more interesting watching this .I'd last seen it years ago and it always stuck in my head as a real classic so watching it again confirmed that! The extra disc is really interesting viewing too ...go buy it!! You will not regret it!!!

  • Good quality for second hand but not good value for money

It is good quality for a used product but however I got 2 more from Sainsburys for my friend's and they are new and sealed with plastic wrapping and much cheaper. I paid £4.90 for a second hand copy but paid £3.00 each for new copies from Sainsburys.

  • Great, Great Film

This is a film that is a classic... I watched it first in my 20s and was riveted by it. The acting is sublime and it is a film that will never reach the end of it's life... captivating, horrifying but compulsive viewing.
