      Good old fashioned policing. No gratuitous swearing, sex or violence.

      As a teenager in the 60's and a fan of Martin Shaw, I just love the series and have watched them back to back. The different characters work well as a team, Gently's authority and experience always leads him to go the extra mile, but the young Sergeant has a long way to go, and a lot to learn about his job and life in general. Inspector George Gently is the type of Detective and man you look up to, not just as a policeman, but in civilian life as well. Shame there aren't more like him...
