It did not look like the blade had ever been sharpened after it left the factory (almost like new). Very happy with the item. Packaging could have been a little better. Plane was wrapped in paper inside a box but with no bubble wrap or more crumpled paper it was left to slide around in the box. The lever cap and blade were loose but luckily had not popped out of place in shipping. It also arrived quickly so I am very happy with the purchase.
