      • Read it slowly and feel the chill.

This has to be the finest description of twenty-four hours in the life of a man living in the extremes of personal survival. I lived every moment of his silent torture and the book was glued to my hand and eyes until I completed it. The only annoyance I felt was because I hadn't read it much, much earlier in my life. A classic? It undoubtedly is.

      • One Day...that's how quickly you'll read this gripping novel

A compelling and moving account of Stalinist repression in the U.S.S.R, this heavily autobiographical novel will give you a unique insight into the day-to-day lives of gulag occupants. Despite the harrowing theme, the novel is charged through with a sense of humanity's strength, as the 'zeks' adapt to and face the adversity of inhumane camp conditions. I would certainly recommend this rewarding read, especially as it was delivered with only 1 day of purchase and in perfectly readable condition.

Great book, a bit worn as it is fifty odd years old but it still reads well. A great novella by a classic russian writer.

      • True at many levels.

The book arrived quickly and in good condition for a used book. Of course Solzhenitsyn needs no introduction, for he is well known for his dramatic delineation of the harrowing nature of socialism which we have witnessed in over twenty countries during the last century and this. This story not only describes in sensitive detail the condition of life in the Gulag, but also serves as an allegory for humanity’s alienation in a godless society. Excellent!

A very short but powerful book. Everyone should read this.
