A feisty septuagenarian teams with a fearless wilderness ranger to do battle with a vicious band of beasts and villains in this computer-animated adventure scripted by Pixar veteran Bob Peterson and co-directed by Peterson and MONSTERS, INC. director Peter Docter. Carl Fredricksen (voice of Ed Asner) is a 78-year-old balloon salesman. His entire life, Carl has longed to wander the wilds of South America. Then, one day, the irascible senior citizen shocks his neighbors by tying thousands of balloons to his home and finally taking flight. But Carl isn't alone on his once-in-a-lifetime journey, because stowed away on his front porch is an excitable eight-year-old wilderness explorer named Russell. Great movie for kids as well as adults
This disc set contains the best of both world; with both a Blu-Ray and DVD discs. The movie combines lots of humor with some subtle serious issues that most adults would notice (lifelong plans, death of spouse, elderly issues, dead beat dad, personal pledges, etc....). I also liked the extra features, especially the one about the writers visiting Tepuis Mountains of South America and Doug's short animated film which does tie into the film. This movie is one of my favorites and it is great to have it now a Blu-ray. If you like movies with some dead thought involved; you will not be disappointed. I love the talking dog!
My favorite line is when the boy says "but it's a talking dog ". I bought this because my Autistic grandson wore out my DVD version. I wanted him to be able to enjoy the movie for a while. It is a great movie and my grandson wanted a cane to match the lead character. He was six years old at the time.
