Good value option against the Canon version

Obviously it's not a Canon original lens but this lens certainly seems to have very little difference in picture quality. So far (I've only had it 3 weeks and used it two or three times), everything about it is very good.

  • Budget lens for Canon 1200D

You get what you pay for, this lens is certainly not bad value or poor performing, things to consider are the plastic fitment to the camera, which will wear more over time unlike the canon which is made of metal. the filter diameter is 62mm, compared to more modern focus motors its quite noisy, and a little slower. The one point is the so called "macro" function on 300mm lenses, this is a marketing tool the focus distance is close to 3ft although good for creeping up on butterflies not really macro, extention tubes are a better option for cheaper macro shots.

  • A lot of lens for very little money

I was looking for a cheap light weight lens after getting tired of lugging big expensive and very heavy L lenses so opted for the Tamron, I wasn't expecting too much from it after using L lenses for years but was pleasantly surprised. The lens offers very good image quality for the price and I found that the MACRO function actually works to good effect, it is never going to rival any L lens but at a fraction of the weight and cost it does a very good job, some may not like the stiff zoom mechanism but I found it easy to use and negates the need for a lens lock switch, there was no lens creep at all. If you are looking for a versatile cheap lens that offers reasonable image quality the Tamron could be for you.
