Tascam has provided a lot of capability in this nicely portable unit, and its a good value. The downside is that due to its small size, the display is small and many of the controls are menu driven. This is fine for equipment savvy people with knowledge of audio terms, but it can be slow and cumbersome for neophytes.

I have the Mk 2 ( current ) version. This recorder has very good sounding mic preamps that render great low level detail along with a full non grainy sound all with low noise. With high sampling rates and bit rates selected, it produces study quality recordings which are ready for mix down or mastering.

We set this unit up to record live with 2 instruments, sometimes 3 and 2 vocals. We leave it all connected to our digital mixer, so we just carry it in, plugin to the house system wherever we are and we are up and running. Quality is excellent and the setup was easy! Highly recommend.
