If you are a fan of Android OS and Geocaching, then this is a great GPS unit. If you want a simple turn on, download GC's, and go hunt, then this may not be your device of choice. Also, you should pay less than $400 for it...it is not worth MSRP! There are a lot more menus on this device as compared to other GPSr's and be prepared to learn a bit about the device before you go the first time, and then follow up with some more learning after that first trip. I love the device and I wanted this over the others I have had for the last decade. Started with a PDA and plug in GPS, moved along a steady path of dedicated GCing GPSr's to my last one - an Oregon 550...but the screens are so small and a pain to see in daylight that I had enough with those type GPSr. The Monterra is like using a smartphone (without data service) but more rugged and great for the outdoors...those people who use their phone to GC are going to pay the price one day and they better hope they aren't in the bush without a phone for help when they drop it or sink it. Anyway, this has everything a dedicated GC GPS has and the extra features of a phone (again, without data) with wifi. If you need to download more GPX's you can tether to your smartphone (if no wifi for the Monterra is available) and log in the Geocaching site and get more to hunt...they can be individually loaded or put in your download folder. When done GCing, you can even hunt for a restaurant or hotel to extend the fun of the hunt. The screen is large and bright and better than any that I have used to date. I would recommend it to anyone now that Garmin has finally updated the device to perform the way it was intended...they even had a recent minor update, so they are still supporting it even though the OS is a relatively old Ice Cream version of Android. If you had an early version of the Monterra and were frustrated by the bugs, those days seem to be over, IMHO.Read full review

The Monterra is an extremely powerful and full-featured handheld GPS unit. Due to it's many capabilities it takes a little getting used to. But it's worth the little bit of effort required to learn it's abilities. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that I have had some difficulty getting a few Android apps to operate reliably on it. Hopefully future OS and App updates will resolve the few problems I've encountered.

This is an top notch Garmin product display is easy to see and move around on.The android features are good but you need a wifi connection for most to work. That is a problem if you are using this in the remote areas like I do. It is like anything that is new it takes a little bit to get use to the new features as compared to regular GPS.I had to call Garmin a couple of times to get some clarification on some aspects of the unit.Garmin support is second to none, always ready to help. One thing that bothers me is the waypoints you add don't show up with names on them on my screen, this is a big problem when you have a lot of them. I addressed this with Garmin and they said they would try to get this in to an update. Over all great unit.
Good quality with a lot of features.
