This is a light and compact zoom from canon. The action using the zoom and manual focus is smooth and autocus response is quick. A good purchase if you are looking for 28mm upwards in a compact zoom from a reliable maker.
works well and very sharp if used with tripod

i got this lens with a not working canon 50e. the lens is very good and very fast in auto focus wwebster
I bought this lens some weeks ago to replace my 35-105mm Canon Zoom Lens. I was worried at first about the wide range offered by the lens as 28-200 runs from wide angle to medium telephoto. I soon found my worries were unsubstantiated. This is a lovely lens once you get used to its ways. Good Points: 1. Small and compact lens given the range it covers 2. Nicely proportioned, fits the camera and hand very well. 3. Sharp results, good crisp colours 4. Nicely balanced Bad Points: 1. External focusing ring can obstruct hand / be paused when zooming in some instances, especially when concentrating on fast objects (motorsport) 2. Zooming very precise, can raise a level of "chatter" on focusing ring when using in low light levels and/or animated scenes. 3. The lens can "extend" if carried by hand with the lens facing down I find that I am starting to use this lens as my "standard" lens when starting out. This lens also fits very well into my range of lenses from 20-35mm Zoom. 28-200mm Zoom and 100-400mm Zoom. I use these lenses on a Canon 5D (full frame) so the lens magnification is correct and as stated. Would I buy this lens again if I lost this one - yes, I guess I would!Read full review
This is a great lens. Priced for the serious amateur rather than the pro, it provides very good resolution over a wide range of focal lengths at reasonable apertures and, quite literally, will do the majority of photographic duties without needing any other lenses, except, perhaps, a good wide angle where field depth and speed are serious considerations. The lens is not a lightweight by any means, although it is relatively short in its optically widest position. It is, however, very solidly built accepting a 72 mm skylight filter partly for protection of the objective element complex. One feels that it will accept the knocks serious photography provides and I would definitely recommend the optional lens hood. The quiet ultrasonic lens zips quickly into sharp focus, and zooming is by rotation of the lens barrel, my preferred method. I have never favoured push pull zooms as I find the action to be less than smooth, silky and accurate. SUMMARY This is the perfect lens for the budget conscious photographer who needs to cover almost all bases with little equipment. It is robust and, provided one accepts the weight of the zoom, will be rewarded by consistantly good quality results over many years.Read full review
