  • Great movie for Jujitsu, MMA Fights & Martial Artists!

As a Practitioner of Jujitsu for +35 years, this movie is now in my top 10. The Sensei of the Dojo, portrayed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, shows what and how a True Teacher teaches and then practices what he teaches. Mr. Ejiofor, has also an important role as "The Operative" in Firefly "Serenity". There are many famous Martial Artists in this movie like Dan Inosanto and Randy Couture. Tim Allen also stars as a 'Famous Hollywood Tough-Guy'. The twists and turns of the plot keeps you guessing to the end. I'm look forward to Mr. Ejiofor's next movie.

  • Redbelt

This is not just another "Fight/ Action" movie. It shown the more personal trait of JuiJitsu, the honor of a man's soul. To truly be Samuri, and live by it daily. I found it very intresting. When he, Terry, could have went ahead with the fight and got the money he needed to pay all his debts and the ones his wife made he said no. Because of others action not his own Terry said no to the fight in the ring. When Terry finally does fight with them, out of the ring man to man, he royally kicked some butt. When it was viewed on the cameras the current champion gave up his title to Terry because he saw the honor of him and his fight. And then for the Grand Master to pass the Redbelt, the only one to him, Terry accepted it most humbly. A truly great man is not made by always ...

  • There's always an escape…

I almost did not watch this film. I have been burned by David Mamet in the past. In fact, I still believe that "Spartan" was one of the worst films ever made. But boy did he make up for it with this one. The film centers around Mike Terry, an idealist, who runs his own dojo and trains students fighting skills and souls. His wife believes Mike is addicted to poverty, but really, he is addicted to honor. Financial and ethical problems result in Mike having to do what he never has done before, fight in a competition. The action scenes are great. The international talent is wonderful. The attention to detail, first class. You will recognized many people from the world of MMA here, including Frank Trigg and Randy Couture, but the actor that plays Mike Terry is what makes the film ...

  • Provides look at philosophy behind the martial arts.

As a practising martial artist I liked the display of technique. As an older martial artist I also liked the emphasis on the spiritual and philosophical approach the main character, Mike Terry, takes toward his art. To often martial arts movies focus too heavily on the physical technique and sometimes neglect the internal battle. Its sometimes easier to show someone beat up 20 guys than it is show that individual dealing with fear and insecurity on a personal level. This movie struck a nice balance between the two. Chiwetel Ojiofer's portrayal of Mike Terry was impressive. His acting was very believable as was his display of jui jitsu technique given he's probably not trained in jui jitsu prior to this movie. I disliked the way Terry's wife was portrayed. I would have ...
