Has to be the strangest film I've ever seen, but I was glued to it. Whole film set in a town drawn on the floor. It's like it could have been a theatre show instead. Very strange to watch something this different but still very good.

Unforgettable story & you'll be richer for seeing.
It's a great story that tests our way of society, and shows how easily we can become monsters. Enough of the hard hitting statement that you'll find easy to do once you've seen it. At first I though what am I watching...! the sets are simple and of a stage-like arty film. But give it a couple of minuets and you'll be slowly drawn in. The more easily pleased of us, who want an easy no thinking film, well I'll guess you'll turn off and watch X factor or perhaps do yourselves a favour and watch it... you'll feel good that you've watched a film that isn't mainstream hollywood. A film I will always remember. 5 stars !It's a great story that tests our way of society, and shows how easily we can become monsters. I bought Dogville not really knowing what to expect, except that it would be a bit different from the norm. I thought the setting - the town is drawn on the floor and there are very minimal sets and props - was really clever and added to the isolation of the characters from the 'real world'. Initially I thought I would find the lack of sets distracting but the film was very engrossing and the setting seemed less odd as things progressed. The acting was good but in the end I felt let down by the story, particularly the ending. Maybe I'm just dim and don't get it and everyone else does. Thats why I give it 3/5 - I hate getting all the way to the end and still not knowing exactly what happened. However, if you want to watch something that isn't run of the mill, that has some imagination ... Danish born style of filmaking which uses a theatre style set and props rather than the usual extravagance of cinema - Kidman is fantastic - as are most of the other players - her situation deteriorates in a way that keeps you glued to the screen. I find a lot of my friends were disapointed by this film, I would say that If your a big fan of American films about people getting punched and blown up, with people like Brad Pitt in then this might overstretch you.Danish born style of filmaking which uses a theatre style set and props rather than the usual extravagance of cinema - Kidman is fantastic - as are most of the other players - her situation deteriorates in a way that keeps you glued to the screen.
