  • Is there any style these guys cannot play? Awesome disc

This is of how I first became aware of Genesis. I was a young kid (11?) when I first heard the song "No Reply At All". I remember being drawn to the rhythm, and also because I understood some of the words (I didn't learn English until I was in my teens). I had been listening to The Beatles and was drawn to the bass guitar not knowing what it really was, but by the time I heard this, I knew what a bass was and looked for it in songs. Mike Rutherford is an awesome bass player and he shines in that song! The song always stayed in my memory bank as one whose album I would have to get someday. Fast forward many to many years later. I always knew Genesis was a great band, but my musical discovery years coincided with their greatest commercial success in the 80's, so I heard them on the radio ...

  • aberrant

THis is quite comfortably the worst album released by genesis, and I include the Ray Wilson and prepubescent 1968 effort. Abacab (the track) is a poor Turn it on Again with even less meaning in the lyrics. Me and Sara Jane sounds like a weak homage to Suggs and Madness. Dodo/Lurker is tolerable. Man on a Corner, Like It Or Noy and Another Record are tolerable. Whodunnit - WHYDUNNIT.Excruciating. I saw this live at the NEC and it was a bit of fun but now seems like the longest, most pointless 3 minutes of your life. Tony Banks has said that this is his favourite Genesis album, I can only assume he was joking.
