Items battery compartment was totally faulty, having to wire in an external battery back up battery, luckily I am an electronics engineer and have the capabilities to do this repair otherwise I'd have had to have sent it back. Other than that it works on 12 volts fine but when the ignition is turned off it loses its time (what the battery is there for).
