    Tikkina compact

    Excellent compact piece of kit. Not too pricey (£20) battery life brilliant 3xAAA easily replaceable too. Highly recommend for non specialist lighting requirements IE not waterproof.

    Basic but brand quality

    If all you want from a head torch is reliability, good battery life and two settings, (medium strong light and stronger light), then this is a decent buy carrying a top maker's name. As an experienced Fellwalker one of the main things I personally want is a lack of glare down my face, which you do get from Energiser and other cheaper makes. Along with all premium makers, Petzl design this out. However for a little more money most torches have the options of a red light to use inside a tent or caravan to find your way to the toilet or whatever without disturbing others, maybe 3 or 4 light settings for when the weather closes in, a red strobe for emergencies and a design that guards against accidental switch-on. Depends what you want. If it's just the basic reassurance of light when you need ...

    Monstrously sophisticated light. A gentle, even reading light. Very powerful (really) floodlight, and an "in between" light. All with one touch off (no cycling through). After years of using others, I know how much inferior they were. And it's only about twenty quid. Get it. You too will be astonished. From Duncan.

    Excellent for dark dog walking

    Easy to turn on and off, good light. But ZI would have liked a longer headstrap . It's not big enough to go over a woolly hat , ok my head is big, but not that big! I will add extra elastic.
