The Eastern Docklands in Amsterdam is one of the largest city planning projects. It is being built on a disused docklands area. This book presents this project to a wide audience, from future residents to international experts. The introduction describes the complexity of planning and decision-making processes, the role of the various parties involved, problems and successes. The book then explores in detail the seven key areas within the project. Each description is illustrated with maps of the area, plans of the houses, architectural drawings and recent photographs. Among the architects involved are Wiel Arets, Jo Coenen, Adriaan Geuze, Hans Kolhoff and Sjoerd Soeters. The Eastern Docklands project won the 1994 Waterfront Centre Annual Award. The book gives a complete overview of the town planning and architectural projects of this addition to a historical city.
