Not enough stars to describe this Cable Puller used for removing large bush roots. Really impressed my son with it who loves using it.

Champion little cable puller hand winch

£16 for a 2 Ton cable puller hand winch, definatly can't complain about it especially when it did the job required of it, pulling over 12 to 14 foot diameter root plates from 80ft blown pine trees. The puller worked a treat, although I did grease it all up before I started which probably made the puller work more efficiently. In all it saved a lot of hard work. It is cheaply made but for £16 what do you expect, and everything i expected of it it delivered very efficiently. yes I would recomend the product especially for pulling over roots from uprooted trees, however if I were a Proffesional requiring the use of a puller on a daily basis then I would probably upgrade and spend a few hundred pounds on a tirfor. If your realistic in your expectations then yes it is a very good product.

  • Most critical review

    unsafe

This devce is very flimsy for the task and therefore in my view extremely dangerous. The pulling cable is very poorly attached to the drum and liable to come off in use; the cable doesn't wind around the drum evenly and gets damaged with every use; also at the pulling hook the cable keeps coming off the roller causing yet more damage to the cable and very difficult to put the cable back on the roller; the cable loading guide is very poorly attached and disfunctional; there is noway of safely taking the load off without risking serious injury; the plastic handle cover slips off during loading risking hand injury, etc. etc. As a result the cable is liable to snap unexpectedly with unknown consequences. Extremely dangerous machine. Mine is now safely in the bin where it belongs. Haven't even ...

  • This winch would be a wonderful winning winch with an instruction manual.

A really good and handy winch, which appears to be well made but could benefit from an instruction manual. Some previous reviews have broached this point, so I will give a few helpful (hopefully) tips below. To ease unwinding the cable, first attach the static clevis hook to an anchor point. On the base of the winch handle is a spring that keeps the ratchet engaged; if you slide the spring end up it will disengage the ratchet. At the other end of the ratchet drum ( the static anchor end) is a lever, which disengages the ratchet brake, this can be either lifted manually or the ratchet handle will disengage it when pulled fully towards the static anchor end of the winch. When both the handle and brake are disengaged the drum will spool out. You can then attach the cable to the load for ...

  • Use with Caution

This is the 4th puller I have purchased over some years. Three 1 ton pullers and this item. Each puller has been more flimsy than the previous ones. I suspect the max safe load is about 200kgs on low use applications. My main use is for pulling leaning trees to fall in a safe direction and 200kg pull normally works OK. So my recommendation is use with caution and expect failure should a sudden/unexpected load occur.
