Although the KCG head isn’t an exact 1:1 copy of the Merkur DE head that has been around since the Weimar Republic, it has almost exactly the same exposure, gap, clamping angles and shave geometry. And that’s a good thing. Looks to me like Gillette benchmarked the Merkur head when specifying this razor, and why wouldn’t they? The heyday of the nickel plated brass Gillette razor is over. Zamak is much cheaper. It makes up in low cost what it gives up in quality and durability. I’m not saying this is a low quality razor; far from it. I own bronze, stainless and titanium razors from makers like Timeless, Rockwell, Blackland, Feather and RazoRock to name a few, and their quality is out of this world. Heirloom levels of durability. But is that necessary in a razor? I only bought those in my search for the perfect razor and blade for me. I’m no collector. And this Gillette comes as close to perfect for me as I’ve found. Every face is different and your experience will be as well. All I’m saying is this thing shaves as well as any $300 razor I own and better than most of them. I’m getting rid of them as buyers come up. Each has sold within hours of listing on the shaving forums. The KCG/Merkur works for me. The handle is my only complaint, but since I have a stack of stainless handles of varying shape, length and weight, I found one that gives this razor perfect weight and balance for my technique and I’m just not using my other razors anymore. Nice weight and length. Some complain about the handle but I find it works just fine and does not slip out of my hand. Nice to see Gillette back in the Safety Razor game with a really good product. If you are tired of paying the high price on cartridge blades and also want to reduce the plastic waste in our environment, this is a great razor to accomplish both and get a great shave as well.

I have really enjoyed this razor! I would say it is slightly more aggressive than an Edwin Jager DE89 which is perfect for me. I'm using Wilkinson Swords and Astra Greens in it and I'm super happy with the results. The price point on this razor will make it a favorite for many as it is easily affordable. My beard doesn't require anything like Feather blades or the Muhle R41 although I have one and use it from time to time . I'd say that I like the weight and feel of the King C Gillette and it is now one of my favorite razors and would highly recommend it. I think you will enjoy it.

The modern King Gillette double edged safety razor is a perfect combination of quality and style. The head is heavy enough for a close shave with minimal effort but not so heavy that it becomes difficult to control. With a handle that is a bit longer than a classic Gillette razor you have better control when changing positions. If I have one complaint, and it was not easy to come up with one, it would be that the knurling on the handle could be a bit deeper or sharper to provide a better grip with wet soapy hands. Overall an excellent addition for any wet shaving enthusiast or novice.

Gillette has been out of the double edge safety razor business, in their Western markets at least, for a long time. It's encouraging to see that they have released two razors in the past few years, this and the Heritage razor. This one has a very nice head, slightly more efficient than a DE89 and very comfortable. The handle is just ok but does the job. All in all, a good razor.

I have half a dozen safety razors which I use on a rotating basis. Some of these are very well-known and fairly expensive. They are very good safety razors. But the Gillette razor has become my new favorite. It’s weight and shape feel perfect in my hand and with a good and sharp blade is not too aggressive and produces a perfect and comfortable shave.

I love the looks, feel and performance of this razor. This one's a favorite with me now. I have a medium beard and this did a really nice job on my first shave with it using one of the King C Gillette blades that came with it. Not overly aggressive, but effective.

This is a very nice razor with good weight & balance. It is equal to my more expensive Merkur. The handle has a nice length at 3.75". The only fault I can find with this fine razor is the knurling could be deeper and go the entire length of the handle.

Looking for an alternative to hi-priced four-blade shavers, I considered the double-edged old-fashioned razors. They are selling for $50 to $65 online. This one was under $15 and I like it. My old barber used one like it to finish me off. The blades cost 8 cents and can be re-used.

This razor has lots of heft and is moderately aggressive but easy on the skin. It bares the Gillette name but its not. It does look cool and I would recommend it as a first double edge razor.
