About this product

Product Information

It's 1985 and teenager Eddy Nugent is slowly going out of his mind with boredom in Manchester - so he joins the British Army. Overnight, he leaves the relative sanity of civvie street and falls headlong into the lunatic parallel universe of basic training: a life of press-ups, boot polish and drills. Gradually, he finds his feet and settles down to life as a soldier. Written by two soldiers and closely based on their own experiences, this is a must for anyone who has served, anyone who is planning to serve or anyone who is thinking about it.

Not many books can be a laugh on every pages this had me crying with laughter excellent read credit to the author

  • A true recollection of packets of bulling rings and long weights for bumpers

Brings back so many memories, saying the band was a skive was a bit much though. I was in it and there were quite a few good sportsmen in its ranks, and i must admit the swanning off to gigs was a bonus lol

  • Laugh out loud book, awesome!!!

What a book, heard about it from a friend who raved about it. I have now read it a few times and every time my ribs have not stopped aching due to the amount of laughing. You don't need prior knowledge of the Armed Forces to enjoy this book, just make sure your not in a public place, I read part of it on a train down to London and my wife said I was getting some funny looks I was laughing so much and out loud. If you only read one book this year or just need cheering up, read this!!!!!!!!

  • Fancy a good belly laugh - this is the book!

Excellent read - I laughed my head off as I was also a 80's army recruit, some parts were forgotten, thank you 'Eddie' for bring back the old memories (love you mate - not) Also did -pre-para and P-Company but, I could not run 1 mile now but, slogging 15 miles was very easy when you are young and stupid
