Soon Joe gets himself caught in between a promise to Susan to meet a big time music producer, and trying to get Clarence ready for their date. The only problem is, Joe doesn't know the music producer and he's string to fall in love with Susan himself. I loved this film when I saw it the very first time and I still love it. Its beauty and its charm are wonderful. I heard about the film that it was basically the training time for Frank Sinatra. Gene Kelly, a perfectionist, made him redo scenes as long as it took to be good enough for him. The perfectionist making is obvious in Gene Kelley's performance.

As an adult and an historian, and a person with a good memory, what's not to like about a well made film with WWII, music, children, Frank Sinatra, Gene Kelley and "The King Who Couldn't Dance"? [Jerry, the mouse of "Tom and Jerry, plays his part as "The King" in a most applaudable duet and dance, long before computers. But what did I know then? I was only a little kid and was entranced.] Believe it or not, Dean Stockwell plays the kid. He did that a lot in those days. Not to seem cynical, this was a multi-nominated film for Oscars, not only because it was a war-time movie, but because it was really good, and inventive, and had a lot of stars, for it's time. Jose Iturbi plays "himself", and Kathryn Grayson plays the girl who sings. She can sing, but can't act. The only conflict in ... I've been looking for it for years. I did. Twice. Be sure you get a copy that will play in your area. (That has been a problem. Make sure your copy will play. Otherwise, in my opinion, That's Entertainment.) That's my review.

Wonderful! And then some!
This movie is noted for the Gene Kelly/Jerry Mouse number, but there's some other amazing moments as well like the Hungarian Rhapsody scene at the Hollywood Bowl and the dance number with the little girl. It's an underrated gem that must be viewed by music lovers!
