  • Excellent textbook - well written!

I have the 8th edition of Alcamo's, and I have found it to be an excellent book. It was a requirement for one of my classes, but it is interesting enough that I have considered keeping it. It can be hard to follow if you are not at a college-level reading level. It is very technical, and covers a broad range of microbiology, including pathogens, fungi, STD's, etc. It covers the structure of different types of bacteria and viruses. What I like is that it has what are called "Microfocus" inserts, which are fascinating stories about whatever the subject is that you are reading about. For instance, if you've ever wondered who "Typhoid Mary" was, there is a short story that tells all about her. And another story about a man who proved the influenza "germ" can be airborne by reciting ...

  • Alcamo's Fundamentals of Microbiology

I had purchased this text as a requirement of the course. So happened that the author of the text was also my professor for the course. The text is one of the most organized I have seen for this course. My text is 15 years old. Second edition. Mr. Alcamo was an excellent teacher. He brought the material down to a level of laymen understanding. His exams were another story. Straight out of the text. Once you realized how he made up his exams, the course was a breeze. I am allergic to histamine. One day, a student sat infront of me with it seemed a bottle of perfume on and I began to choke from it. Ironically, he was lecturing on allergies that day. He was very patient with me as my coughing interrupted him many times. After class, in the hall, I tried to get my breath back and ...

  • Alcomo's Fundamentals of Microbiology by I. Edward Alca

I needed the book for a college micro class as a required reading. This book is easy to read and to follow the new concepts and add on's in each chapter. The summaries at the end of each chapter help in understanding the main concepts of each chapter. Too bad my instructor could not be as easy to understand..

  • Very nice, and comprehensive book. Will recommend it.

This is a very great book. Easy to understand; it has all the fundamentals of microbiology unlike other text book. It's the latest edition too. I will definitely recommend Alcamo to friends and well wishers.

  • LEARNING MADE EASY WITH THIS INCREDIBLE BOOK!

I AM AWAITING THE NEW EDITION. THERE ARE A LOT OF NEW DISCOVERIES AND INSIGHT THAT HAS HAPPEN SINCE THE LAST EDITION IN 2004. THE AUTHOR MAKES LEARNING EASY BY HIS ENGLISH, EXAMPLES AND THE ACCURACY OF HIS KNOWLEDGE AND WISDOM. I RECOMMEND THIS AUTHOR TO ANY STUDENT TAKING MICROBIOLOGY.....................
