Tragic love triangle involving a young American Air Force pilot (Kevin Costner) & the stunningly beautiful Madeleine Stow as the wife of a notorious Mexican cartel boss (Anthony Quinn). Stellar performances in a racy love story with a twist of incredible fate & ultimately, inhumane vengeance imposed on the young lovers. The strong attraction between them makes this a fascinating romantic movie, despite its painful ending. Strictly for adult viewing. Luzmarina

I have thought about this movie for years. But I could never find it for a good price, until recently. And it rarely, until recently, comes on satellite tv or cable tv. It is an very good movie, but very long. The one thing that I totally dislike about this movie is the fact that the female star of the movie's father set her up with a senior citizen man who never seemed to want to satify her female needs. He didn't seem to care if her needs were ever satisfied, romantically. If her father knew his daughter was suffering like this, I think he would have regretted marrying his young daughter to her husband. She was financially secure, though (thanks to her husband). They could have divorced and he could have let her have a romantic relationship, but still make sure that she's okay like he promised her father he would. 24 years later and I still like this movie just as much as I did when it was made. So, purchasing it was a no-brainer. And I would again, if needed.Read full review
REVENGE is my second favorite movie of all time. Seriously. It's not well known at all. I love it so much I will now only allow myself to see it once a month, OK twice. I love it so much that this my 3rd copy! And I have all three on my shelf. The plot is off the hook interesting, with twists and turns. The cast of characters are strong, believable and amazing, every last one of them. The chemistry and passion between stars, Kevin Costner and Madeleine Stowe is off the chain hot, sexy, romantic and so believable. Their passion pulls you in full throttle. I did not want this movie to end. Sadly, It ends with no possibility of them getting back together. That made me sad. I also love the music, it's moody and has a rev that helps guide the path of the movie. I can hear the music theme as I write this and it makes me want to rush home and watch it for the millionth time. This movie should have gotten more notice with rave reviews. Y'all... this is a great movie. Get it! Watch it! Fall in love with the couple then get sad at the ending. But enjoy ALL the characters that Kevin Costner's "Jay" meets along the way. It's a journey. While Revenge isn't a cinematic masterpiece on the level of Kubrick or Hitchcock, I always thought it was so underrated it was kind of an unsung classic. Costner does his usual stiff but competent job, Quinn turns in a characteristically great performance, and Stowe was perfectly cast as the dazzling Latin bombshell. The chemistry between Costner and Stowe is convincing. The score and cinematography were great. But what makes this movie stand out are all the hallmarks of a classic tragedy. Even though all the characters know their actions are wrong, none of them are able to control their feelings, and their own character flaws push them irresistibly towards a horrible fate. All the characters deserve some of our sympathy, but they all deserve blame as well, and the moral ambiguity of their actions is part of what makes the movie so believable and compelling. Just like in real life, nobody is 100% good or bad; their moral integrity is a matter of degree, circumstance and perspective. The critics hated this movie and it bombed at the box office, I think because of the sheer brutality of what happens to Stowe's character, and because of what may be the saddest ending of all time. Many movie-watchers just can't tolerate much deviation from the standard formulaic Hollywood fare, but for me it was part of what made the movie so compelling. Viewers who have the capacity for powerful love will instinctively feel that much more strongly for the "star-crossed" lovers, precisely because they can't be together. Some may think the comparison unwarranted, but it's part of the same emotional dynamic that gives "Romeo and Juliet" its power. All in all a well-crafted movie based on a good Jim Harrison story, that sadly never got a fraction of the praise it deserved. But people who really know good movies will always appreciate it as a hidden gem. P.S. All the reviews saying the director's cut butchered the original are right. The director's cut removed scenes that were essential for plot and character development, and inserted gratuitous scenes that made the film almost seem like a trashy exploitation flick.
