Outstanding Collectable
I've enjoyed "The Wizard of Oz" for 60 some years. I've never had a really high quality copy of the film until now. The 70th Anniversary edition has about everything movie buffs could want, and my first viewing of the film on this disc was a real treat. I have some hundreds of films in my collection, and I watch a movie to relax after a tough day, sometimes reading or catching up on correspondence as the movie plays. I'm sure I'll be watching this DVD at least 3 or 4 times yet before the year is out.I've enjoyed "The Wizard of Oz" for 60 some years. I've never had a really high quality copy of the film until now. 70th Anniversary Edition Full Screen (Special Features)
I bought the brand new DVD and viewed Halloween Night, our new family tradition. The black and white beginning (a I rememeber seeing on TV) has been re-digitalized to be in sepia tone which really enhances the Kansas setting and the surroundings. The actual color enhancement of this version is outstanding: the bright yellow brick road, the amazing green skin tone of the Wicked Witch of the West, and especially the glittery ruby slippers on Dorothy just come alive. A beautiful, beautiful job! The re-digitlized sound was not that evident of a difference, but I do have an older dvd theatre system with 5.1 surround sound, which did still work well and was wll-balanced overall. The #2 disk with special features was a treat: narrated by Angela Lansbury (my personal favorite actress of 'Murder ... The film follows 12-year-old farmgirl Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) who lives on a Kansas farm with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, but dreams of a better place "somewhere over the rainbow." After being struck unconscious during a tornado by a window which has come loose from its frame, Dorothy dreams that she, her dog Toto and the farmhouse are transported to the magical Land of Oz. There, the Good Witch of the North, Glinda (Billie Burke), advises Dorothy to follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City and meet the Wizard of Oz, who can return her to Kansas. During her journey, she meets a Scarecrow (Ray Bolger), a Tin Man (Jack Haley) and a Cowardly Lion (Bert Lahr), who join her, hoping to receive what they lack themselves (a brain, a heart and courage, respectively). All of this is ... enchanting keeping one's imagination firing
This was a gift for my granddaughter. We had recently watched it together on TV for the first time and she was thrilled when she got the DVD in the mail. The Wizard of OZ has been my favorite movie since I was a child. I made it a part of my children's lives but only when it was on TV and this was limiting. I am so happy that my 4 yr old granddaughter can watch it any time she wants and that our family tradition lives on. We live quite a way away from each other but many of our telephone calls involve talking about this movie. She watches it often and has so many questions about what happens during the movie. It is no only a fun movie but also such a learning experience for all of us. I also recieved a DVD of the Wizard of Oz from my son for my birthday. I think I watch it as much ... The Wizard of Oz - Special Edition
I always loved watching this movie growing up, and I still do at age 48. I bought this item for my grandbabies. I want them to be able to grow up watching this movie and their's will look even better on their t.v. screen than mine did all the year's in the past. I am sure they are going to love it also. My grandbabies call me Gammy, my daughter has Breanna 8, Bryson 5, & my son has Addy 4, Austin 1 and a half, and they have a new one on the way due in August, so Gammy will have 5 babies. My son is the one that said he wanted to get his this movie, so I told him I had bought it on eBay, and he was really excited about it. So I guess he will carry on the tradition of watching this movie with his kids, just like Mama did with my 2. I also bought 2 more copies, so my daughter gets a copy for ...
