Comparing a Canadian-history writer with Pierre Berton is not something that should be done lightly; Berton's ability to make history accessible to the masses is legendary. However, with Arc of the Medicine Line , Tony Rees has proven himself worthy of such a comparison... Rees 's lively writing style, as well as his inclusion of witty and prescient excerpts from both personal letters and official reports, make this an engaging read.

Synopsis
A history of physics up to the end of the classical era at the end of the 19th century, just before the discoveries of the subatom and relativity were made., The late J. D. Bernal's lectures given to first-year students in physics at Birkbeck College, University of London, are presented here in their entirety, tracing the history of physics up to the end of the classical era at the end of 19th century, just before the discoveries of the subatom and relativity were made. In view of the prestige and profundity of the newer discoveries, Bernal felt that the classical era was being largely forgotten. In this book, he attributes a greater relevance to the work of men from the distant past than is usually given. For instance, the idea of atom not only retains the language of the Greek, Democritus, who first postulated it, but there is also an absolutely unbroken connection between the atom of the Greek and that of the modern physicist. Bernal felt that the historical method would be a suitable introduction to the fundamental concepts of physics, and it is hoped that the readers of the book will be able to see something of the interplay between the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject., The late J. - a***p (8)- Feedback left by buyer.Past monthVerified purchaseI received my book in absolutely pristine condition, better than described! Which is impressive because the copy is from 1930 and it looks like it has never been handled. It shipped very quickly, even faster than the estimated time given by a week. It was packaged very carefully. The book and shipping price was also very fair considering the age and condition of the book and the shipping speed. I am very pleased with this seller and will be ordering from them again in the future.
- 5***8 (18)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseI am always a little nervous when ordering books off of eBay but this seller has provided me with an EXCELLENT purchasing experience! The packaging was superior and I am grateful because this is a signed first edition and we all know how the post office can be at times. The Shipping was timely and the item actually arrived quicker than expected. The item EXCEEDED the description. It is stunning. I have dropped it off at my antiquarian for authors signature verification but the value is high. What Negro Wants by Rayford W Logan 1944 (HC/DJ) (#335500668720)
- l***a (3698)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseExcellent seller! Book arrived earlier than expected, safely packaged, and in wonderful condition, especially for a 165 year old book. The description said to expect foxing and a loose binding, but the book I received had only a few minor foxing marks and a sturdy binding with just the tiniest bit of wobble. Much better than expected --and at a great price too. Many thanks to this wonderful 5 star+ seller!Perfect Gentleman; Or, Etiquette & Eloquence by A Gentleman HC 1860 (#396112941293)
