Product Information

John Candy plays a burned-out air-traffic controller, John Chester, who takes his family on a vacation to Florida where everything imaginable goes wrong--and occasionally right as well. Summertime follies lead to a clash with the smug owner of his shabby rental. Improbably but delightfully, this results in a boat race that may bring his put-upon family together and bandage Chester's wounded honor. This 1980s comedy is bolstered by its atypically fine performances, not least Rip Torn as a pirate.

A Funny Guy For All Seasons
John Candy has captured the everyman quality of the character he portrays in "Summer Rental". There's "so much" to laugh-out-loud about in this movie that it should be required viewing for everyone alive. Rip Torn and Richard Crenna add superlative and inspired performances as their characters choose up sides for the "classic underdog vs. bigshot challenge". With a variety of touching, hilarious, and memorable scenes, this movie is (by my lights) one of the best comedy films ever made, and has a "bouyant" happy ending for the viewer.John Candy has captured the everyman quality of the character he portrays in "Summer Rental". John Candy...He was grt.
All I can say is if you enjoy laughing, buy this movie. It's not just funny, it's a picture the entire family can enjoy. I think we need to laugh together as a family and watch pictures without all the blood and gore. Time well spent to sit with the kids.

Summer Rental John Candy 80's classic comedy
John Candy in an early film from him and a real 80's classic that has a laugh out loud level of jokes. Maybe it is lacks many quotable lines but it surely is worth a watch.
