Partendo da Babilonia e dall'antica Grecia, Donal O'Shea ripercorre l'evoluzione del pensiero matematico nel corso dei secoli, da Euclide a Riemann, da Poincaré ad Hamilton, fino a Grigori Perelman, il matematico russo che nel 2002 risolse la congettura, rifiutando poi il premio di un milione di dollari messo in palio.
