About this product

Product Information

One winter's afternoon Stephen Foster walked into a dog re-homing centre with the intention of picking up a retired greyhound. Instead, he acquired an abandoned lurcher pup. Foster's knowledge of dogs was so vague that he had to look up 'lurcher' in key reference work The Giant Book of the Dog to find out what sort of animal was coming to join the family. His research counted for little: the new arrival did not conform to any known breed standard, or indeed any standard whatsoever that might be considered dog-normal. Walking Ollie is a hilarious - and often heartrending - account of one man's attempt to turn a psychotic wild animal into something resembling a domestic pet.

  • A very readable, funny, and at times sad book about a neurotic and exasperating rescue dog but with a happy ending.

I bought the second book 'Along Came Dylan' in a charity shop and enjoyed it so much that I googled and found the first book. I thought this is a well written book and very very funny as the descriptions of the author's difficulties of Ollie's behaviour mirrored some of the behaviours of our dog. Very few books make me laugh out loud and this is one of them. Although I found myself questioning some of the author's views on some segments of society, it didn't detract from my total enjoyment of the book.

  • Entertaining Read.

Having owned a Saluki Greyhound cross ourselves, I initially purchased this book around 10 years ago. I typically lost it so repurchased a short time ago. This book is a wonderful reminder of Saluki ownership, written in a whimsical manner it is a true tonic. Definitely recommend it.

  • Easy reading happy story for dog lovers.

This is a really nice, funny story about the experiences of a guy adopting a rescue pup. If you have a dog you can relate to the owner and gain some little bits of advice too. If you happen to live in Norwich it'll appeal too.
