Overall a good, interesting paint medium.

This product is excellent for lively underpainting, the colours are vibrant, however ...once dry, I find they dull down in vibrancy. It is an excellent product for mixed media work, or to add enhancing accents onto existing paint areas. As with every art medium, it needs to be used to see if it is suitable for the style of painting of the individual artist. I use it mostly in an experimental way, letting colours bleed and wash into each other. Due to their shape the sticks lend themselves well to cover larger areas. If pushing down too hard onto the surface the pigment does leave marks which unfortunately do not dissolve once wet with water. I use textured paper so this particular surface can have something to do with the pigmnet staining. Overall this product has its good uses, ...

  • Vibrant easy to use colour

First time I've used these. Terrific! I use a wet brush to paint straight from the tin so cannot comment on any other technique but really enjoy them. They can give a translucent wash or a punch of solid colour depending how you use them. Economical because there is no waste and good because I get no mess the way I use them.

  • Not so bright!

The reason I bought the Derwent Inktense was to use as an underpainting for some of my pastel paintings. I was happy with the way they worked for this. However, they are NOT as brilliant in colour as I expected. In fact, they are more on the dull side.! As stated above they work well for underpaintings so I am happy with my purchase.

  • Excellent starter set. Used for fabric it stays permanently.

Really easy to use. Good range of colours for starters. Exciting to see watercolour effects on fabrics. Can be used in a variety of ways. Shaved, grated, direct from block or in water with brush. Just what I want when crafting.
