- Nintendo's long-running and hugely popular RPG series returns to DS gamers with an emphasis on character customization and multiplayer co-op in Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. Players can create their own unique hero by choosing from more than 1,000 options, including race, vocation, clothing, armor, weapons, and special abilities. Once a character has been created, gamers head off on a quest to track down fallen angels who have been transformed into monsters by the unintended consequences of wish-granting fruit from a magical tree. Dragon Quest IX has done away with random battles, but players must still engage in turn-based combat frequently, with the first-person planning stage followed by a third-person action stage. In addition to gaining new armor and weaponry from fallen enemies, gamers can also bulk up their inventory by creating new items through alchemy. Sentinels of the Starry Skies offers an expansive number of side quests designed to help players earn items and experience points, and the four-player local co-op mode lets friends wirelessly band together to slice through monsters and explore dungeons.

Great Co-op RPG
Dragon Quest IX is one of the only true co-op RPGs out there. The amount of freedom given to clients is spectacular, since they can actually walk around and enter combat themselves. Only gripe is that they can't progress the story. Customization is another strong point. While there isn't much you can do in the character creator, all equipment adds a visual to the character, so you could dress up as a slime of you wanted. Add this with a great class system, and it more than makes up for the creator. Main quest ends at about lvl. 50. From there on out, players can choose to do postgame quests and dungeon maps (Dungeon maps are mostly randomly generated, meaning there are a ton). There are also "legacy bosses" which are from previous games in the series. With plenty of postgame content, equipment that effects the character, a great class system, and fantastic multiplayer, this game is a strong recommendation for anyone looking for a good DS RPG. (Note: some quests and legacy bosses can no longer be obtained due to servers shutting down. You can use other methods to get these if you really want them.)Read full review

Don't Let This One Get Away (if you like RPGs)!
Wow! What a fun ride for a story and charming DS RPG. I had to buy the rest of these Dragon Quest games for my DS after playing Sentinels of the Starry Skies. I had wanted an RPG, but also one I could play with another person. DQ IX does both. Each player will need their own DS and DQ game card. Game play is easy to master, yet challenging all the same. There are side quests you can pick up and complete along with your main objective. Basic classes are Minstrel, Warrior, Mage, Thief, Priest, and Martial Artist. Advancing/Levelling your character during quests opens up new areas, better armor, and other character classes to choose from like Ranger, Arbalist, Sage, Paladin, etc. You will even have the use of alchemy to make up your own gear, weapons, and accessories. You are able to customize your character from the start and later, make up other characters to join you to complete a party of four. There is plenty of hours of game play in Dragon Quest. So great
Thank you, I’ve already sunk hours to it. Very relaxing game except when you get in the boss battles and then it’s brutal. Great for quick, short plays due to the quick save feature.

Great game, great series!
I've just bought it for a week and now i am totally addicted. This is a great game, the story is incredible, the quest is plenty and the part i like most is that you could customized your character. There are plenty weapons and armors and accessories to wear. You can be a Warrior or a Mage or a Thief, there are plenty of vocations to choose. When later in the game, you'll have another addition - the Alchemy, this is a great feature, you can craft things with it from the weapon, armor, to the healing item and some other item that boost your stats. The game also connect to Nintendo WI-FI Club to download more quest and there some great items to buy (using gold from the game). You can multiplay by wireless with your friend, this is a great feature, and it fun. The series Dragon Quest was very popular and now the IX edition is another great addition for the series. So you don't have to think about this anymore! GO GRAB THE GAME!!!!Read full review

This game will have you entertained for hours on end
Take turn based battle styles with a countless number of creatures to encounter and a very classic RPG feel wrap it all up and stick it in an awesome handheld game for the nintendo ds series and what do you have? Dragon Quest IX. This game runs on a very smooth engine. What it lacks in graphics it makes up for in gameplay. I named this game one of my favorites for the ds system. You start out as a clestrian protecting a small village. The story from there on out follows the character you create in the beginning. There are also a countless number of items from healing herbs to new shoes or swords. Overall i would reccommend this game to anyone who does not like the same old boring "run here do this ok now run here do this" type rpg. This game keeps it fresh the entire way through gameplay. This game will have you entertained for hours on end and will not be left to dissatisfy.Read full review

A Great Game to the Dragon Quest Series
This is another good game to the Dragon Quest Series. There is plenty of stuff to do to keep you busy. Overall, the Story is a good long story which has been played out well and will keep you well entertained. Plus there are multiple sides quest that are available to do off of the main quest. There are plenty of monsters to fight and a wide range of areas to go in the world. Another good thing about this game is that you are not bound to a certain character. You have the option to create your own character and you can undertake "jobs" later on as you get into the game. Aside from that, there is also many other parts of the game to keep you busy. I highly recommend this game to any RPG fan out there and to anyone who has a DS to play this on. You will not miss out on this excellent game

One of the best rpg ive played
One of the best rpg ever made ..whether your a fan of dragon quest or not. Or whether you play the other series, it doesnt matter. The games has its own unique story. The graphics is also good. A must have for every rpg fans out there.

Awesome JRPG
Dragon Quest is an example of a true JRPG. If you are a fan of these games, this game is a must. Very good story with some awesome improvements (like non-random encounters and multiplayer). The graphics are very unique by Dragonball's creator, Akira Toriyama. This game is very lengthing (around 40 hours for the main quest) with extra quests available through Wi-fi download that will continue for one year. The extra multiplayer option is just an added bonus that adds a lot more fun when you can experience the game together with your friends; although, it is a shame that the multiplayer only supports local wireless and only up to 3 friends with you. I would definitely recommend this game to anyone that wants a fun RPG, especially if you have some friends or siblings to play with.
