In this and the other volumes of this series of books, Rabbi Kolatch explains the various Jewish customs that Jews keep. He brings various reasons -Biblical and Talmudic- based upon Jewish sources and anyone who is interested in converting would be extremely rewarded in reading these books. It's easy reading plain english, and not esoteric. Non religious Jews who wish to know more about their heritage will be amply rewarded as well. A win win situation for all those who need to know more about the great Faith of Judaism from which all the other Monotheistic religions sprouted from.
I purchased these books because I already have a set for myself and gained a greater understanding of why the Jewish faith does thing the way they do. My sister-in-law is marrying a Jewish man and she had some questions. Not only did these books answer the questions she had but HE also enjoyed the simple answers given in the books. These are not book as to "how to be jewish" but they are great books to answer general questions from circumsision to marriage to breaking the glass at the wedding etc. I recommend these books, and the "Catholic Books of Why" to anyone who has questions. They are simple and consice.
As a Christian I have always been interested in our Jewish heritage. These books answered so many questions and provided lots of information for me to ponder.

just wonderful books, full of answers to so many questions, just the best book ever to learn of ones family roots, and if your not of the jewish faith you will understand just how wonderful thier cultural legacy is and the dreams they have for thier nations and people.
It functions as a great reference book, especially when children ask "why?' It is like when a child asks why the sky is blue. The book answers all of the why questions and is broken down by subject matter, such as holidays, praying, religious articles, etc.
