Happy 30th Anniversary to a most beloved animated children's classic!
We've all seen The Little Engine That Could from 1991 on the VHS, and so many children have gone on and loved it with all their hearts, then grew up and held onto this most treasured opus. Despite only being 30 minutes long, through the animation, music, voices, sounds and everything else, it's very clear that the people who worked on this movie really gave their all to give people something beautiful to always hold onto. But for many years, since maybe 2009, when I looked at reviews on the VHS on Amazon, one question that was asked was, "Why isn't this version available on DVD?" That question has resonated with me ever since, for the past twelve years. Many of us waited, wondered and hoped for this movie to make its way to the DVD format...and it did...kind of, sort of...in 2011, with ... We've all seen The Little Engine That Could from 1991 on the VHS, and so many children have gone on and loved it with all their hearts, then grew up and held onto this most treasured opus. Despite only being 30 minutes long, through the animation, music, voices, sounds and everything else, it's very clear that the people who worked on this movie really gave their all to give people something beautiful to always hold onto. But for many years, since maybe 2009, when I looked at reviews on the VHS on Amazon, one question that was asked was, "Why isn't this version available on DVD?" Many of us waited, wondered and hoped for this movie to make its way to the DVD format...and it did...kind of, sort of...in 2011, with that empty and completely lackluster CGI remake with Whoopi Goldberg, Jamie Lee Curtis and Corbin Bleu. If children like that movie, more power to them, they can enjoy what they will, but for me and many people, both as a stand-alone film, and ESPECIALLY as a follow-up to the 1991 version, and even more especially since it was Universal, the same company that brought us the 1991 classic, that remake was extremely weak. But I still watch it once in a while, mostly because I just find the fact that they touched on the story again interesting. But I digress. We kept waiting beyond 2011 for this classic to come about...and then, just around a month ago, I was surfing here on eBay, and then it suddenly clicked in me...this year, and the 22nd of November marks the 30th' anniversary of this work of glory. I immediately got curious, I typed in the search for a DVD...and here it was! I could not believe my eyes when I clicked here and looked through the pictures...The Little Engine That Could, my pinnacle of animated joy ever since I was an infant...was on DVD at long, long last! It just didn't seem real, but it's right here for all of us to see. Now, as far as my experience in getting this DVD goes, I did have a little jumbled mess to deal with. I placed a first order for the DVD, and when it came...the disc was cracked and unusable, but that is NOT the seller's fault. It was clearly handled too roughly during the shipping process. As such, I placed a second order, making sure everything went better this time...and, by God, it went like a miracle! The disc arrived intact, and I have already watched it through. It works perfectly, and is just as described. The sound quality update is superb, without all the grainy noise you may hear on VHS tapes. The update in picture quality, top-notch! The vibrancy in the colors compared to the VHS tape, super beautiful to look at! The nostalgia factor is bursting through the roof for me, and to all of those out there who are wishing for this classic to be enjoyed on DVD, I can say you will be utterly enchanted with this most fitting dedication to the 30th anniversary of The Little Engine That Could from 1991! Your childhoods will reopen all over again with this classic on your movie shelf. Sit back, and enjoy the beautiful, heartwarming, funny, adventurous and triumphant animated classic of The Little Engine That Could! "I Think I Can!"
