Example of a film reliant on good writing rather than expensive special effects
I first saw this film in the theater when I was eleven. I was intrigued by the title and expected some kind of science fiction action scenario. I was actually disappointed. I watched it a few years ago on Youtube and had a better reaction being able to accept it more as a thriller. However, over time I came to appreciate it even more given the current events of Covid. When I watched it in blu ray format on a 4k 50 inch television with a surround sound home theater system, I was astounded at how fascinating the film actually is. It could be that after a diet of so many special effects with heavy CGI I can now appreciate a film directed by John Sturges that invites some intellectual engagement.
