He had escaped north to freedom, but he came back--came back to teach reading. Knowing that the penalty for reading is dismemberment Nightjohn still retumed to slavery to teach others how to read.     Not very well written

    Considering the reputation of this particular author I thought that the writing of this book left depth, the language was not accurate for its time nor were some of the historical points I just think that with the reputation that this author has it should have been better written they should have put more thought into it
